circa 1895

Built by Donald Stilson

The shop and machines are made to 1/12th Scale

The Shop is powered by a Stuart # 9 steam engine built by Clarence Stilson in 1965.   Two  line shafts power the machines by belt drive. The office is on the left, shop in center and the boiler room is right end.

The machines in the shop are: Lathe, Planer, Band Saw, Drill Press, Horizontal Mill, Punch Press, Disc Sander, Vertical Mill, Grinder, Shaper, Bench Drill Press and Arbor Press. All machines except arbor press are belt driven. All machines except Band Saw, disc sander and Punch Press were built by Don from PM Research kits. The vertical mill and the planer are my own design from photographs of old machine tools.

The electric power is supplied to the shop from a DC generator powered by a steam engine.  Notice the knob and tube wiring in the shop.  All the lights work when the generator is running and connected.
